Senior IDs in California
One of the side effects of the pandemic has been that we’ve seen a marked increase in customers with expired drivers licenses, especially among the elderly. While we were in lockdown, a lot of drivers either didn’t go in for their renewals or relied on the extensions that the DMV rightly gave out to everyone. Ironically, this may have kept them from actually renewing their license.
For many, they might have told themselves that they don’t drive anymore – so why would they need one? Even more still may not have realized that it matters when they need to sign a loan or legal document. It is a requirement for notarizations. We’ve written here about ways to resolve this through credible witnesses, but it’s harder to organize and we do have to charge you a little more for those kind of notarizations.
If you or a loved one is elderly and don’t plan on driving any longer, it’s important to get a senior identification card or have a valid passport for notarization. The California DMV provides these IDs through a process similar to getting a license without a driver test. If one is 62 years old or more, it is absolutely free and in many cases, you can even renew or conduct business at the DMV office by mail or online.
